Creating a Dynamic Workplace
The whole Chwarae Teg team has been busy adapting a typical office into a place where we can work more effectively in a flexible and dynamic space.
Our new space also means we can do more to help women achieve and proper as we’ve been able to create a new event space and rentable work spaces too.
I hope you love our new space as much as we do!
1. Come on in and take a seat
This is how our reception area used to look:
The space was functional, yet underused and didn't reflect who we are or what we’re aiming to do.
Now the transformed space:
- Clearly shows our VISION
- The cartoons show our sense of fun
- The sofas have created a new meeting space
- The writing desk acts as a focal point and offers an occasional work space
- The signing in desk was made for us by carpenter Phillippa Skinner and uses up-cycled apple crates
- We have more usable space that offers an exciting first impression.
2. Fancy a cuppa?
This is how our kitchen used to look:
This popular space is a real hub of activity at Chwarae Teg. It functioned well so didn't need a lot of work to transform it!
Now the transformed space:
- Has fresh white walls
- Black notice boards to tie in with the light fittings and counter top
- A very pink feature ceiling that adds a dynamic sense of energy. This ceiling also reflects our view that there is nothing wrong with the colour pink and the real issue is the way it is being inappropriately used to target the selling of stuff to girls.
3. Roll up roll up...
This is how our event space looked:
Originally home to just 4 workstations this area has been transformed to provide us with the ultimate in adaptable space.
The event space has:
- Seating for up to 20 people
- A clear wall for projections
- A whiteboard
- Screens to create privacy
- The option to add tables for workshops
This give us our own venue to allow us to run more events to help more women, and even help us generate income!
4. Creating success!
This is how our creative area looked:
Three desks used by one person, this space had much more potential. To encourage creative thinking we’ve turned this into our creative/activity area.
This space:
- Allows us to undertake creative activity to support our thinking
- Encourages “open” round table meetings and conversations
- Is about fun and games to help re-energise the working day
- Will keep evolving!
5. A change of pace
This is how our Zen Den used to look:
A little used meeting room has been transformed into a Zen Den that has lots of different uses.
The Zen Den:
- An ideal space for thinking
- An intimate place for meetings
- A quiet space for relaxing
- Brings a sense of nature to the office environment
- Can be used as a personal space
- A destination for practicing mindfulness
- An extra dimension to the workplace.
6. Space to work
This is how our desk space looked:
A warren of desks, divided by privacy boards the arrangement filled our space and we had too many desks.
The new desk space has:
- Hot desks based in two clusters
- A round informal meeting/work desk
- A high level standing desk
- No privacy boards
- New white desks and bright green chairs to give a contemporary look
- A greater feeling of spaciousness
- Brought the whole team together
- Freed-up space for the event and creative areas
- Help us influence government, industry and academia
- Help us keep gender on the agenda
- Have your views taken into account
