Join us for the Chwarae Teg lecture, brought to you in association with the University of South Wales.

The lecture is being delivered by esteemed academic Professor Tom Schuller, originator of The Paula Principle.

The Paula Principle says that:
“most women work below their level of competence.”

It is the mirror image of the Peter Principle which (referring, as it was coined in the 1960s, to men only) says that every employee rises to his level of incompetence.

The Paula Principle is important, because across all industrialised countries women and girls outperform men and boys educationally, and go adding to their competences at a higher rate as adults, but this advantage is not at all reflected in where they get to in terms of careers and pay.

In this lecture Tom Schuller, the originator of the Paula Principle, will explore the negative and positive reasons for it; and discuss its implications for the working lives of women and men in the future.
