European Election 2014

15th May 2014

On the 22nd May Britain goes to the polls to vote in the European 2014 election. Your vote is your opportunity to have your say.

Represented by our four MEPs membership of the European Union has delivered a number of benefits to women and families in Wales, these include:

  • £1bn in funding that helps to pay for schemes such as Jobs Growth Wales and brings investment in jobs and growth.

  • 160,000 jobs in Wales exists because of European investment

  • As a result of EU legislation our part time workers are entitled to the same employment rights as full time workers and all workers are entitled to maternity and paternity leave

It’s important that our politicians represent the views and needs of all members of society which is why we are encouraging you to exercise your vote on the 22nd May and to take the opportunity to quiz your candidates on what they will do to represent you should they be elected.

In the week leading up to the election we will be highlighting on Twitter (@chwaraeteg) the manifesto pledges and policies from the main political parties, that directly affect women and families in Wales. We hope this information will help you to make an informed choice when you come to cast your vote in the European Elections.

Ahead of the election to help you make an informed decision as to who to vote for you may like to consider:

  • Reading the manifestos

  • Attending a local hustings

  • Asking your candidate questions about Europe if they knock on your door

Most importantly our democracy is a privilege that works best when we all choose to exercise our right to vote, and we hope you get the opportunity to use your vote in the European Elections.
