Not Just for Boys is Back!

16th October 2020
Girls across Wales who are interested in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) should sign up to the latest Not Just For Boys webinar - that’s the message from Chwarae Teg and Welsh Water who are joining forces this October half-term.

A panel of five inspirational female employees working, in a variety of STEM roles at Welsh Water, will take centre stage and show that their jobs are Not Just for Boys.

Run by Chwarae Teg, the free webinar will take place from 11am-12.15pm on Tuesday 27 October.

The panel from Welsh Water will feature Leanne Williams - Head of Programme, Thayammal Soorianarayanan - Solution Architect, Sara Jones – Wastewater Programme Performance Manager, Keeley-Ann Kerr - Energy Optimisation Analyst and Elly Hannigan Popp – Organisational Change Lead.

A force to be reckoned with, the five female role models will help show the girls that careers in STEM are well within their reach, and enable them to:

  • Discover what ‘a day in a life’ looks like working in a STEM industry.
  • Hear how they have been working in the fight against COVID-19.
  • Be inspired by their career journeys and ask questions

This Not Just For Boys webinar is the fourth in our online series for high school aged girls, which we have been delivering since the coronavirus pandemic began. If those we have run in the past are anything to go by, they will get a lot out of it. 100% of participants told us they enjoyed our last run of events and now feel more informed about STEM career choices as a result!

“During these challenging times this webinar will be a fun and interactive way of helping to keep girls inspired and motivated, whilst showcasing rewarding careers in STEM.

We are delighted to be taking over the Not Just For Boys panel for this event. As a company we are committed to getting more and more women into STEM, and understand the benefits a diverse and more gender equal workforce can bring.

“Our panel of employees are shining examples of how women can succeed in STEM and I’m sure their enthusiasm and knowledge will be felt by all involved – hopefully motivating the girls to follow their lead.

Head of Talent and Inclusivity, Welsh Water
