Work with us to understand the experiences of women over 50 in the Welsh economy
As part of our Wefo and Welsh Government funded Agile Nation 2 project we have an exciting research opportunity.
We are looking to work with a research company to undertake a project exploring the experiences of women over 50 in the Welsh workforce.
Our labour market is still segregated on the basis of gender. Women continue to be under-represented in senior positions in many sectors and are much less likely to be working in sectors traditionally seen as “male”, such as construction, engineering and manufacturing. This inequality widens as women get older. Unlike men, women do not climb the career ladders smoothly in their career progression.
This project will explore where women aged over 50 are in the Welsh economy, what their experiences are at work and in the labour market, and how they are adapting to the transforming economy.
The research aims to amplify the voices of women over 50 and offer practical solutions to Welsh Government, businesses, and wider stakeholders. The research will explore existing support for women over 50 and identify any gaps in policies and programmes that need to be addressed to ensure more effective support is available.
The principal questions of the research are:
- Where are women over 50 working in the Welsh economy?
- What are the experiences, aspirations and challenges of women over 50 in the Welsh workforce?
- How well supported are women over 50 to remain and progress within work, and to adapt to a transforming economy?
The budget of this research is up to £24,000 (inclusive of VAT).
We aim to achieve a report with practical, evidence-based policy solutions to be implemented in Wales. Whilst we do not wish to pre-determine the structure of the final report, in the report, we are expecting:
- An executive summary
- A literature review
- Explanation of the methods used in the research and the rationale for using them
- Clear numeric presentation of primary and secondary data (if applicable)
- Quotations from research participants about their experience (if applicable)
- Focus on geographical disparities if applicable.
