Tell us about your organisation

Pia is small business that transcribes print documents into braille, large print and audio for people with visual impairment. Although we’re a small company, we work throughout the UK and on high-stakes, high-profile material. We have a great reputation for customer service and the quality of our work.

Why are you supporting the awards?

Pia’s success very much relies on individuals performing at their best and taking responsibility. We have successfully built a team that does exactly that through implementing fair working practices and diligent management processes. Some of these were supported in the early days by the Agile Nation projects run by Chwarae Teg. We now want to encourage other organisations who are implementing their own supportive policies and practices.

Why does gender equality matter to you?

Equality matters to Pia in many ways. As an organisation owned by a gay woman, we want young people who are gay to live in a less hostile environment than that in which we grew up. As a business owned by a woman, we want women to feel empowered and supported to achieve their goals. And as an organisation with a diverse workforce, we want colleagues everywhere to work and live without discrimination.

Why do you support the work of Chwarae Teg?

Chwarae Teg supported Pia when Pia was a very small team. We want to payback some of that support to be shared with other women and businesses in Wales.
