Representation for public service and on public boards is important.
The Near Ready Leadership, Public Leaders of the Future, Board Induction Training and Diversity & Equality Training Programmes have been designed following the Ministerial objective to, ’Increase diversity on public body boards’; aligned with the strategy set out in ‘Reflecting and Running Wales - Diversity & Inclusion Strategy for Public Appointments in Wales’.
The Goal was to create a robust pipeline of potential board members, ensuring that individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds and disabled people of high calibre, expertise and skills, who are near ready to apply can participate in a high-level leadership programme for Board development.
There are four different training programmes available depending on individual requirements:
‘Near Ready’ Leadership Programme: Individuals who will complete these programmes will already have some leadership experience, such as being a school governor, and will be interested in obtaining a Board position on a Public Body in Wales. The programme is intended to provide delegates with the specialist knowledge and skills to execute the responsibilities of a board member on a regulated public body in Wales.
Public Leaders of the Future: For disabled people and people from ethnic minority communities who are interested in obtaining a public appointment but who do not yet have the necessary skills and experience to apply. The training will provide participants with the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed to move towards obtaining a board position on a public body and help to develop a pipeline of diverse talent.
Board Member Introduction Training: Suite of training which will provide introduction training for new board members of non-health Bodies. The training will equip new appointees to the boards of regulated public bodies in Wales with the key information needed to carry out their role.
Introduction to D&I Training: Suite of training which will provide Diversity & Inclusion training for Chairs and Board members of public bodies in Wales. The training, offered to the boards of 55 regulated public bodies in Wales, will provide delegates with an understanding of equalities legislation, the Social Model of Disability, reasonable adjustments, systemic/institutional racism and racial inequality training.
