Women and men experience budget decisions in different ways as they are rarely in identical employment or domestic situations.
These differences need to be considered to ensure that spending decisions benefit all members of a community equally. Robust equality impact assessments and applying gender budgeting techniques are important tools that can help achieve this.
In this paper we set out our views on likely spending priorities for 2017-18 and the importance of strengthening equality impact assessment of budget proposals to ensure that spending decisions do not unfairly impact on anyone as a result of their gender.
