From site engineer, to managing multi-million-pound rail construction projects. In 2018, she was runner-up in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Rising Star Award and in 2019, she was selected as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Engineering.

Since 2014, she has worked for VINCI Construction UK. In her current role as Head of Business Information Tools for VINCI’s Building Division, she is looking at increasing productivity and efficiency in construction through process improvement and digital transformation. Alongside her passion for continuous improvement she is a strong advocate for diversity in the workplace and believes the two are intrinsically linked.

She is currently working towards her IEng, while going into her final year as a degree apprentice in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of West England.

Rhianne Smith - Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Rhianne discovered her interest in becoming a Quantity Surveyor while studying for her A-Levels. Although she had never stepped foot on a construction site, her interest in the industry led her to apply for a Higher Apprenticeship to gain the practical skills and develop her knowledge of construction. She joined VINCI in 2018 as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, working on site while studying part time.

Now three years later, she has worked her way up to the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor, working on two hospital projects, alongside entering the fourth year of her degree. During her time with VINCI, she has procured works packages, managed final accounts, worked on bids for major construction projects, and even supported the site team in monitoring of local ecology.
