Tell us about your organisation
We are Wales & West Housing and we have 50 years of experience in social housing in Wales. Our vision is to achieve strong, sustainable growth to make a difference to people’s lives, homes and communities.
We manage more than 12,000 high quality, affordable homes in 15 local authority areas across Wales. These include more than 3,000 dedicated properties for older people as well as innovative supported housing solutions for people with a range of particular needs.
Why are you supporting the awards?
Our 2019 equality monitoring showed that 54% of all our residents are women and that women make up 66% of our staff, so we truly recognise and appreciate the contribution and difference women make everyday both in the workplace and in our communities.
Sponsoring the Womenspire awards allows us to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women from all backgrounds and stages in life or work across Wales.
Why does gender equality matter to you?
When women have the same rights and opportunities as men across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision-making, and when the different behaviours, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favoured all of humanity benefits.
Gender equality helps to tackle poverty, illiteracy, and abuse across the world. It can lead to improved healthcare, literally saving lives, better legal protections and better racial equality.
We believe that gender equality helps us to make a real positive difference to people’s lives, homes and communities.
Why do you support the work of Chwarae Teg?
We passionately agree with the Chwarae Teg vision of a Wales where every woman and girl is treated equally, is able to fully participate in the economy, and public and political life and live safe from violence and fear. Therefore, we are delighted to engage in any partnership and promotional opportunities in order to have this message heard loud and clear.
