Agile Nation2 is funded by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government. Delivered by Chwarae Teg the project has been developed to improve the position of women working in the private or third/voluntary sector.

The Agile Nation2 project was established as women continue to be underrepresented at a managerial level across Wales. It is designed to improve this situation by:
  • Working with employed women working or living in Wales to develop skills, and confidence to progress in the workplace.
  • Working with small to medium sized businesses to develop effective recruitment, working practices for better retention and developing a diverse workforce.
The programme was developed as a direct response to a body of evidence showing there is a clear need for positive measures to be taken to support the progression of women in Wales.

This evidence includes:

  1. National figures show that 8% of employed women in wales are in management compared with 12% of men
  2. Women are underrepresented in key STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) industries, particularly in apprenticeships and management
  3. By balancing the participation rates of men and women, more than 10% could be added to the economy by 2030

I moved into the third sector over 10 years ago, having held various HR Manager roles. Providing access to professional level training, to people for whom this was a fresh experience, brought a great deal of personal satisfaction.

I have the privilege of working with many women – each from a broad range of backgrounds but all seeking personal development, be it skills or confidence building. I know how lucky I am, to travel with these women, whatever their journey might be, to witness them grow in confidence and skills, each tapping into talents they didn’t realise they had and to become the very best that they can be – it doesn’t get much better than that!

With over 25 years’ experience in education, I am a firm believer in the concept of life-long learning. Whether it’s a formal qualification or learning to develop confidence and self-awareness, it is something that I enjoy sharing to help people feel more empowered.

My main areas of interest and expertise are leadership, teamwork and psychology. With expertise in fitness and outdoor activities too, I believe that health and well-being is part of becoming more self-aware; and can help develop confidence that contributes in many ways.

I thoroughly enjoy delivering our learning modules and it’s great meeting all the participants and learning about their work and experiences; and particularly, helping them to realise their potential.

As a Career Development Partner on the Agile Nation 2 Programme, I have the pleasure in meeting many wonderful women in Wales for their initial meeting. I deliver training and provide support throughout their time with us while they are completing the programme, and I help to celebrate their successes and witness the amazing changes they achieve for themselves.

I see, first-hand, how the programme helps women to improve their skills and confidence, which allows them to develop and move their careers forward. I have the best job satisfaction I have ever had, knowing that what I do plays a small part in making a difference to our participants.

I joined Chwarae Teg in 2017 with extensive experience in management, education and advice and guidance. My role as Career Development Partner within the women’s Programme has allowed me to utilise my experience, skills and knowledge to support women in their learning and career journey. I am passionate about my role and gain extreme satisfaction from being a part of the career development programme, witnessing first-hand the positive impact that the programme has on women. From the initial Getting to Know You meeting to the review upon completion of the programme, my role is to support women to recognise their skills and strengths, develop their confidence and to encourage them to define and plan their career goals.

As a busy mother of two, I appreciate that it is sometimes difficult for women to have the chance to reflect on their career journey and to focus on their career development and I am proud to be part of a programme which actively promotes this and has such a positive impact on the lives of women.

I have over 20 years’ experience in training and people management, with qualifications in Coaching, NLP Practice, Change Management, Mindfulness and a number of other subjects linked to personal development and wellbeing. I am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider for adults. Prior to Chwarae Teg, I was the senior lead for ‘people and learning’ across Wales for a large national Charity for 17 years. In the gap between that job ending and working for Chwarae Teg I started and ran a number of small business which has given me useful knowledge and experience to draw on.

My role as a Career Development Partner involves carrying out a 2 hour Getting to Know you Meeting with new participants, gathering information from them and providing career development information and support prior to starting their ILM course. I deliver part of Day 1 of the 6 session programme and all of Day 6 where we focus on further career planning, employability and confidence building to achieve their goals. Finally I complete a review meeting after the course is completed, talk through outcomes and help plan the next steps in the participant’s career journey as well as providing ad hoc support with job applications, interview preparation and so on as required.

The Programme is well worth doing, you learn new skills, new ways of thinking and you get a recognised qualification at the end. You also discover a lot about yourself, your strengths and existing skills, which you may not have realised previously. I have more belief in myself!
