Tell us about your organisation
Qualifications Wales is the independent organisation responsible for regulating general and vocational qualifications in Wales. We regulate awarding bodies offering qualifications in Wales. We are an independent body focused on publicly funded qualifications, including GCSEs, A levels and vocational qualifications.
Our organisation was established in 2015 and at that point we sought to create a culture that was inclusive and brought the best out in everyone, allowing all to reach their full potential. Women are well represented at each level in our organisation but we recognise that we can still improve in terms of diversity and represent society as a whole, which can in turn bring different ideas and perspectives which then benefit the organisation, our people within the organisation, and what we deliver.
We established our organisation with policies that we felt put us at the forefront of flexible working, supported individuals in all aspects of their life and helped them feel engaged and able to give of their best.
We always wanted to work with other organisations to understand the issues facing minority groups and listen and learn with a view to continuous improvement.
Why are you supporting the awards?
We wanted to support Womenspire because we want to show our support to the exceptional women across Wales and celebrate their achievements. As the independent regulator for qualifications in Wales, we work with schools and colleges in communities across Wales. Good education underpins a more equal society as qualifications can help people to overcome disadvantages. We want to support the inspiring women in our communities.
Why does gender equality matter to you?
Gender equality and inclusion in our organisation is fundamental to all of our work. We take our responsibilities very seriously, following best practice in the design of our policies and how we engage with the communities that we work in.
We recently received a Gold Standard Fair play award, which demonstrates our commitment to gender equality and diversity as well as our clear determination to engage all employees, recognise, respect and celebrate our differences and enable them to develop the potential for each person.
